Alphonse J. Sykora, 83, Lake Mills, died on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Autumn Winds in Oakland Township.
He was born on March 8, 1929 at Haugen, Wisconsin, the son of the late Rudolph and Roselia (Havelka) Sykora.
Al graduated from Rice Lake High School and later from M.A.T.C. Milwaukee with an associate degree as an electronic technician.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Al married Nancy Hall May 23, 1953 in Washington D.C.
He was employed by Western Union until his retirement. Al and Nancy have been Lake Mills’ residents since 1995, moving from Greendale.
He enjoyed carpentry, golfing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; one son, Daniel (Sandy) of Milwaukee; two daughters, Alice Sykora of Madison, Carolyn (Crow) Sykora of Eugene, OR; two grandchildren, Tyler and Rudy; one brother, James (Jean) of OK; one sister, Antoinette Wenzel of Eau Claire; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Also preceding in death was one brother, Rudolph and four sisters, Mary Sykora, Roselia Wiesner, Helen Vanek and Frances Kramer.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father David Wanish as celebrant.
Burial will be held at a later time in the Southern Wisconsin Veteran Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the church until the time of the service.
